India Outlasts West Indies by 14 Runs in a Thrilling 3rd T20I to Claim Series Lead

The Holkar Stadium in Indore witnessed another high-scoring modern classic as the Indian cricket team edged past the West Indies by 14 runs in the third T20I. With this hard-fought victory, India has taken a crucial 2-1 lead in the five-match series, setting up a high-stakes encounter for the remainder of the tour.

Abhishek Sharma Sets the Tone with Blistering Knock

Put into bat after losing the toss, India came out with all guns blazing. Opener Abhishek Sharma put on a masterclass of power-hitting, hammering 69 runs off just 30 deliveries. His aggressive innings—featuring six boundaries and five maximums—not only propelled India's scoring rate but also etched his name in the record books as he became the fastest player to reach 2,000 T20I runs in terms of balls faced.

Valuable contributions down the order from Ishan Kishan (37 off 18) and Tilak Varma (28) ensured that the momentum never dipped. Despite regular breakthroughs by the West Indies bowlers—highlighted by Roston Chase and Shamar Springer picking up two wickets apiece—India powered their way to a formidable total of 223 all out in their allotted 20 overs.

West Indies' Valiant Chase Falls Short

Chasing a daunting target of 224, the visitors showed incredible resilience and stayed true to their reputation as fierce white-ball chasers. Shimron Hetmyer led the charge with a blazing 43 off 26 balls, while Kamil Pooran (42) and Sherfane Rutherford (32) kept the scoreboard ticking at a rapid pace.

As the equation tightened, the Caribbean batters launched a flurry of boundaries, threatening to pull off a sensational victory. However, India’s bowling unit held their nerve in the death overs. Arshdeep Singh was the standout performer with the ball, claiming 3 crucial wickets to break the back of the West Indies chase. Despite a late onslaught, the visitors finished at 209/7, falling short by 14 runs.

Looking Ahead

With India leading 2-1, the action now shifts to the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad for the fourth T20I. While India will look to seal the series, the West Indies will be desperate to bounce back and force a series-deciding fifth match in Bengaluru.
