Hope's Hundred Trumps Rahul's Heroics: West Indies Edge in 351-Run Thriller to Avoid Whitewash

NEW CHANDIGARH — In a high-scoring thriller at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, the West Indies produced a stellar batting display to defeat India by 5 wickets in the third and final ODI. Despite the loss, India wrapped up the series 2-1, having already sealed the series with dominant victories in the first two games.

Rahul and Rohit Power India to 351

However, the definitive momentum shift came from KL Rahul. Walking in to steady the ship, Rahul launched a ferocious assault on the West Indies bowling attack, remaining unbeaten on a magnificent 129 off just 87 balls. His explosive knock featured 10 boundaries and 6 towering maximums, including a brutal late-overs onslaught that milked crucial runs to push India well past the 350-run mark. Jayden Seales was the pick of the Caribbean bowlers, claiming 3 wickets, while Keemo Paul picked up two.

Shai Hope and Amir Jangoo Lead the Chase

Chasing a daunting target of 352, the West Indies showed immense grit and positive intent right from the powerplay. Though they lost an early wicket, captain Shai Hope put on a batting masterclass, steering the innings with exceptional poise.

Hope found an incredible ally in Amir Jangoo, who continued his stellar run of form in the series by compiling a fluent half-century (67). The pair stitched together a crucial century stand that kept the required run rate within reach and put the pressure squarely back on the Indian bowling attack.

Hope's Century Seals the Win

As the match entered the death overs, Shai Hope brought up a magnificent, hard-fought century. Displaying exceptional temperament and shot selection, Hope kept the scoreboard ticking even as India tried to squeeze through tight overs. Useful contributions down the order kept the scoreboard moving, and the tourists successfully gunned down the target, reaching 352/5 with 10 balls to spare.

Though India’s bowlers—including a wicket apiece for Mohammed Siraj, Kuldeep Yadav, and Naman Dhir—fought hard, they had no answers to Hope's anchor role and the aggressive lower-order cameos

Shai Hope was named Player of the Match for his majestic, unbeaten hundred that ensured the West Indies ended the ODI leg of the tour on a high note. Both teams now shift their focus to the upcoming T20I series.
